Health
"Some people use it to ease their aching backs. Others find it relieves eczema. Even one of the hot-air balloonists who broke world records by flying around the globe admits he relied on it to steady his nerves and catch some sleep while at the mercy of the jet stream. Hypnotherapy, or trance work, is a group of techniques that allow practitioners and patients to take advantage of the mind-body connection to foster healing. It's also one of the most common referrals we make for our patients here at the University of Arizona's Integrative Medicine Clinic. I've often recommended it ... for a wide variety of conditions."

Asthma & Allergies
Allergies are a symptom of the immune system making a mistake that can be easily and immediately corrected with hypnotherapy. Even if you've had an allergy for 20 years, it can be gone in 20 minutes! This kind of rapid positive result dramatically illustrates the healing magic we all have in our own mind. We're conditioned to think that the mind and body are two separate things, so to many of us it seems ridiculous to expect that the mind could get the body to make a big change in the way it operates. But it can be done!
The symptoms of Asthma can usually be dramatically alleviated by hypnotherapy. According to many doctors, over 90% of asthmatic symptoms have a significant emotional component — usually repressed grief or anger. Once these emotions are cleared with hypnotherapy, the symptoms of asthma usually disappear completely.
In one of our most dramatic cases, a three-year-old girl had asthma attacks so severe that her mother had installed in-home emergency medical equipment to avoid constantly rushing her daughter to the emergency room in the middle of the night. We saw the girl one time. Five years later the girl's mother told me that, after our single hypnotherapy session, her daughter had never had another asthma attack. Hypnotherapy works.
"An NIH-funded pilot study found that asthmatic adults who used imagery techniques were able to decrease their medication, and Dr. John Mark is currently planning a study on guided imagery in children with asthma. In addition, biofeedback and hypnotherapy have shown promise in managing asthma."

Stress Management
These days people take stress for granted. We assume that it has to be part of our modern lifestyle, that it's unavoidable, and that we are its victim. Not so. Stress is really a code word for fear. With hypnotherapy, you can change your mind's responses and stop generating fear, even in the most demanding situations. Would you like to feel profoundly serene on the inside, and at the same time be vibrant and mentally sharp as you make crucial decisions at work and juggle the demands of family life? If that sounds better than rushing around like a headless chicken and wishing you were somewhere else, we have a challenge for you. Try one private hypnotherapy session with us (or listen to our "Stress Release, Rejuvenation & Creative Empowerment" CD once a day for 21 days) and see how much better it feels to be truly in control of your life.

Weight Loss & Eating Disorders
The problem of obesity has reached epidemic proportions in the U.S. There are many contributing factors to this tragedy — the kind of food you eat, when you eat it, how much of it you eat, the kind and frequency of exercise you do, your metabolic rate, and the vibrancy of your emotional state. In a scientific study featured on the Dateline television news show, simple hypnosis was easier for participants to follow than a number of other approaches to weight loss — they got better results, with less effort! Comprehensive hypnotherapy is even more powerful than the simple suggestive hypnosis used in this study. To read about how a guy named Marc lost 13 pounds in 1 week using hypnosis during the Dateline study, click here.
Many thousands also struggle with eating disorders such as Anorexia and Bulimia. Hypnotherapy can give you a healthier perspective on your body and its needs. You can get free from the vicious cycle of starving, bingeing and purging that causes so much suffering — physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.
In over 16 years of practice, we've seen people regain the power to make healthy choices in every area of their lives. Time and again, people have come to us to achieve their ideal weight and learn to accept their bodies, and then are surprised to find that they also break through obstacles in many other areas. They discover interests and talents they never dreamed they had. Hypnotherapy will not only make it easy and pleasurable to achieve a healthy body weight, it will also reawaken your passion for life!
Pain Relief
Relieving pain is the primary focus of much of modern medicine. People often complain that the cost of their pain medications is constantly increasing. They also worry about the troublesome side effects of these drugs. When people in pain have to put their faith in pharmaceutical companies (which may or may not have adequately tested the drugs for safety) they feel a loss of control over their health and well-being.
Hypnotherapy is extremely effective in alleviating pain, whether episodic or chronic. For a fraction of the cost of prescription painkilling drugs, you can be free of pain using hypnotherapy techniques. Imagine experiencing relief from pain without any of the negative effects associated with pain-killing drugs-and imagine being in total control. Thousands of people use hypnotherapy and self-hypnosis every day to get free from pain.
"Doctors at the University of Washington's Regional Burn Centre in Seattle regularly use [hypnotherapy] to help patients alleviate excruciating pain."
Surgery & Recovery
Using the time-tested techniques of hypnotherapy, it is possible to prepare your body and mind for surgery so that you experience minimal bleeding, minimal swelling, rapid healing, and minimal to no pain during recovery. Not only can you greatly reduce the physical after-effects of surgery, you can also learn to stay in a calm state of ease and well-being throughout the entire procedure.
"In an NIH-funded pilot study, Harvard researchers found that broken bones healed faster with the help of hypnosis. The cardiac surgery unit at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York has some patients consult with a staff hypnotherapist before surgery to reduce their anxiety and increase their sense of control."
Back Pain
A study conducted by researchers at the Department of Anaesthesiology, Hospital Cantonal Universitaire of Geneva, Switzerland recently investigated and compared the analgesic effect of hypnotherapy with acupuncture. They found that "pain intensity was significantly lower with hypnotherapy as compared with acupuncture..."
"In a study funded by the NIH's Office of Alternative Medicine, researchers taught a self-hypnosis technique to people suffering from chronic back pain. By practicing the technique regularly, these patients were able to reduce their pain sensation by 80%. They also said they felt significantly less depressed and were able to sleep better at night."
Migraine Headache
Even the devastating effects of migraine headaches can be extinguished with hypnotherapy. Many migraine sufferers have in their past a severe trauma. Once that trauma is released through hypnotherapy, their problem with migraines itself becomes a thing of the past.
Pain-free Childbirth
"When a laboring woman's mind is free of fear, the muscles in her body-including her uterine muscles-relax, thus facilitating an easier, stress-free birthing. In many cases, first stage labor shortens, eliminating fatigue during labor and leaving mother fresh, awake and with energy for actual birthing. "We say HypnoBirthing sets you free from fear, not free from pain, although many women experience pain-free births," Mongan says. Eliminating fear allows the woman's body to work like it's supposed to."
Chronic Pain
People who suffer with chronic pain due to injury or illness often feel at the mercy of their body's neurological responses. Given our current medical model, this may sound strange: Nevertheless, with hypnotherapy you can actually "talk" to the part of you that is creating your pain. You can then discover its purpose and gain its cooperation to reduce or eliminate the pain. Hypnotherapy does this by giving this pain-producing part of you the means to fulfill its purpose in a truly beneficial way.
Dental Work
Putting patients into trance to achieve pain-free dental work without the use of drugs is one of the oldest medical applications of hypnosis. Its use virtually disappeared with the advent of pharmaceutical anesthesia. The fact remains, however, that hypnosis is an effective, non-invasive means of anesthesia that is particularly helpful for people who have adverse reactions to drugs.
Insomnia
Severe insomnia causes a mind-numbing exhaustion and loss of hope. Lengthy periods of sleep deprivation take a profound toll, both physically and mentally.
Insomnia is often, though not always, the result of obsessive thinking about unfinished business. With hypnosis you can not only calm the mind, but also instruct your subconscious to generate creative solutions to the problems you've been thinking about. Even if you have been experiencing insomnia for months or even years, hypnotherapy can free you from this burden.
Addictions & Bad Habits
What is the difference between an addiction and a bad habit?
Addictions are the most extreme form of self-rejection and self-hatred. If you're involved in an addiction, you end up focusing almost all your available energy on a single endeavor (such as the consumption of alcohol or food or cigarettes). The only thing that motivates anyone to such extreme effort is a powerful unmet need. Addictions are driven by just such powerful unmet needs. The tragedy of addiction, however, is that the means you choose to meet your need never accomplishes the goal. Instead, an underlying self-rejection and self-hatred keeps you from recognizing your true need, and you become locked onto a false (or decoy) need. With an addiction, you lose your free will to such an extent that you're in danger of losing what's most important to you. With a bad habit, you may be creating great inconveniences in your life, but you still maintain a certain capacity for self-control, recognition, and openness about your problem.
Hypnotherapy can help you take back your personal power, and free you from compulsive and addictive behaviors, including:
Smoking
Alcoholism
Drug Addiction
Sex Addiction
Workaholism
Gambling Addiction
Procrastination
Compulsive Behaviors
Bedwetting
Tooth grinding (Bruxism)
